Meet the Editor: Alex Chen

Alex Chen is the editor and lead author of AI Dev Toolkit. He has spent the last eight years building Python backends, AI-powered developer tools, and production APIs at early-stage startups and open-source projects.

Before running this site, he worked on data pipelines, LLM integrations, and internal developer tooling. He started AI Dev Toolkit because he was tired of tutorials that looked good but broke the moment you typed the first command.

What I actually use: Python, FastAPI, VS Code, GitHub Copilot, Docker, Ollama, and a growing collection of command-line scripts. Every guide on this site is something I would send to a colleague.

What We Are Building

AI Dev Toolkit is a free, independent resource for developers who want clear, practical guidance on modern tools. We cover:

  • Python development — FastAPI, type hints, virtual environments, async, deployment
  • AI tools for developers — LLMs, local models, coding assistants, MCP, LangChain
  • Developer workflow — Git, Docker, VS Code, Linux commands, debugging
  • Honest comparisons — tools we have actually tried, with trade-offs, not just feature lists

Our Editorial Process

We publish guides that pass three checks:

  1. It solves a real problem. We only write about topics we have encountered while building software or helping other developers troubleshoot.
  2. It has been tested. Code examples are run on a clean machine or virtual environment before publishing. If a command fails, we fix it before it reaches the page.
  3. It is honest. When a tool has downsides, we say so. When a recommendation is subjective, we explain why it fits a specific situation.

How We Use AI

We are transparent about AI: we sometimes use AI writing and research tools to draft outlines and speed up editing, but every published guide is reviewed, fact-checked, and tested by a human. We do not publish raw AI output.

Our goal is not to produce as many articles as possible. It is to produce guides that actually work when you follow them.

Why This Site Exists

Most developer content falls into two traps: either it is too shallow to be useful, or it assumes you already know half the answer. We aim for the middle ground — detailed enough to solve the problem, explained simply enough that you do not need a computer science degree to follow along.
